Today is Kidneybean’s first birthday. It’s staggering to think it’s already been a year, and it’s staggering to think it’s only been a year. And while I’m considerably less cool than a year ago (I’ve caught myself humming “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” more than once, when there were no babies in the vicinity), and look considerably older (an agency I act for sometimes wanted to update headshots and I said I had a baby so I looked older – they laughed and said I looked great, then part way through the shots the photographer said, “Wow. Yeah. You look tired.”), but life is certainly immeasurably fuller.
Because it’s got more of this…
And this…
And this…

Wow. I am not generally a baby fan, but yours is truly beautiful.

We ordered her with extra cute.

A designer baby? Absolutely adorable!
October 10, 2013 at 8:47 am
No! NO!! It has most definitely not been a year! You obviously got the date wrong, because she was born merely a few weeks ago. I don’t care if you were there and are one of her parents, you must be mistaken! Now quit this foolishness at once!
(And happy birthday to your little darling! Please tell me you are getting the requisite icing slathered cake for her to put her face and hands into. There is nothing cuter!).
October 10, 2013 at 5:01 pm
That’s kind of my thinking. There seems to be a rampant calendar error going on.
October 31, 2013 at 10:15 pm
Eddies. Eddies, I say, in the space-time continuum.
October 10, 2013 at 8:50 am
Happy Birthday Kidneybean. Don’t worry, your Dad is still cool.
October 10, 2013 at 5:02 pm
I think so, too.
October 10, 2013 at 8:53 am
You think the hard part is now? Wait til he starts borrowing the car 🙂 Stock up on tranquilizers!
October 10, 2013 at 8:59 am
Love that middle shot (well, all of them, but especially that one).
October 10, 2013 at 5:02 pm
It’s the kickin’ back, post-destruction “Hey, how’s it going” pose that just kills me.
October 10, 2013 at 9:22 am
Wow, a year? Huh. A very happy birthday to your adorable little girl!
October 10, 2013 at 9:43 am
Happy birthday, Kidneybean, and congrats, B-Man and Mrs. B-Man, on surviving the first year! 😉
October 10, 2013 at 6:27 pm
Psh. If every year is as easy as the first one… I’m going to die from sleep deprivation…
October 10, 2013 at 6:36 pm
It took years before we were getting good sleep, but then we had two kind of close together, and the younger didn’t sleep through the night till he was four years old. Now, we have learned to adapt.
Good luck. 😉
October 10, 2013 at 9:53 am
Kidneybean looks like a force to be reckoned with in that second photo.
Happy birthday!
October 10, 2013 at 6:40 pm
She is that, there’s no doubt.
October 10, 2013 at 9:56 am
And you think you’re tired now…Just wait until Kidneybean becomes Mexican Jumping Bean! When they get mobile, your life changes in ways you never even thought of! Enjoy every moment. 🙂
October 10, 2013 at 10:02 am
Whoa! How does a year go by so fast?
I think Kidneybean is hungry in the first photo. She appears to be eating the swing’s seat.
October 10, 2013 at 6:41 pm
She’s giving it a go, anyway. You never know what’s edible until you try.
October 10, 2013 at 10:22 am
You say you look different? Well, your daughter doesn’t look anything like her kidneybean photo from just 17 months ago.
Happy birthday to all of you!
October 10, 2013 at 6:41 pm
I know, she’s gained, like, 20 pounds. I think I need to say something.
October 10, 2013 at 10:33 am
Happy Birthday, Little Kidneybean!! She’s absolutely beautiful. Thanks for sharing the photos. Congrats to you for surviving the first year.
October 10, 2013 at 10:47 am
Awww… Happy birthday KB :). My little cherub just turned 5; time flies. But once they start talking you’ll get great blog fodder. Last night Em was “reading” me a story she had drawn, and the best line was “and then Mummy made them a lunch before the world ended” 🙂
October 10, 2013 at 6:44 pm
See, she never reads to me. Every night for a year, it’s just ‘read to me, read to me, read to me.’ She’s very selfish.
October 11, 2013 at 1:36 am
I bet she never makes you any pumpkin purée or changes your diaper either… Babies huh?
October 10, 2013 at 11:10 am
Happy Birthday, Kidneybean.
Some day she’s going to experience what I did at about 4 yrs old. My mom hung up a picture of an incredibly handsome man, and I said, falling instantly in love, “who’s that.” She will always adore you, as I did my Dad.
October 10, 2013 at 12:27 pm
Happy birthday! That’s the most adorable kidneybean ever 🙂 Time does fly and yet not. It’s a funny thing, time.
October 10, 2013 at 1:23 pm
Those pictures are cuter than a barrelful of Internet cats. Happy birthday, KB! Many happy returns!
October 10, 2013 at 6:42 pm
LOLbabies. I can’t believe that doesn’t exist. Does that exist? It must. If not, we’re going to make a bajillion dollars, you and me.
October 10, 2013 at 1:26 pm
Happy birthday, Kidney Bean!
October 10, 2013 at 1:29 pm
Wow, a year already! Happy Birthday Byronic Baby!
PS. I Look way older too and all I got this year was a new cat.
October 10, 2013 at 2:19 pm
Congrats and happy birthday, Byrobaby! She’s beautiful.
October 10, 2013 at 2:41 pm
Happy Birthday Kidney Bean you little cutie pie! I remember waiting patiently for her arrival and here we are a year gone by already..hard to believe. Considering there is something in her mouth in all of these photos I’m going to predict some major eye rolling in approximately 12 years.
All the best for a celebration filled with love & happiness!
October 10, 2013 at 6:45 pm
Could be. She’s also just in that “Let’s see what I can eat” phase. Also the “Let’s see how much I can throw up” phase.
October 10, 2013 at 3:13 pm
Congrats on making it through the first year with sanity intact.
October 10, 2013 at 3:20 pm
What a doll! Happy day to the little chip off the ‘ol bean.
October 10, 2013 at 4:25 pm
What a cutie patootie!!! She is a perfect 10 on 10/10!
October 10, 2013 at 5:28 pm
Reblogged this on Lovella's Messy Life and commented:
Happy Birthday Kidneybean! and why are you called a Kidneybean? intrigue. :*
October 11, 2013 at 11:59 am
The first sonogram image we saw she was the size & shape of a kidney bean, which gave us something to call her until she was a her, and had a name.
October 12, 2013 at 3:36 am
Ah! I was so intrigue upon reading the name Kidneybean. hahaha. Thanks. I should call my kid squash. lol.
October 10, 2013 at 5:34 pm
Ahh, the good ol’ days (which I can no longer remember) when I could stick my toes as well as my fingers in my mouth. Happy Birthday, Kidney Bean!
October 10, 2013 at 7:53 pm
Happy 1 to your lil’ kidneybean! 🙂
October 11, 2013 at 3:19 am
Many happy returns–as in what returns in the diaper once all is eaten.
October 11, 2013 at 6:47 am
Having a certainly immeasurably fuller is more cool in my book. Happy birthday to the munchkin and congrats to you for surviving year one of parenthood with a smile on your face and only relatively tiny bags under your eyes!
October 11, 2013 at 9:00 am
OMG I WANT THE GIANT PUZZLE LETTER PLAYMAT!! GIVES IT TO US!!!
October 11, 2013 at 10:31 am
Congrats! I think surviving that first year is a real accomplishment. It’s a tough one. Happy 1st to the bean!
