The First Rule Of Ice Cream Club Is “You Don’t Talk About Ice Cream Club”

Humor

This week’s Weekly Question of the Week question has taken a shocking, emergency turn!  Yesterday I made mention of Dublin Mudslide ice cream and received several comments from people who had never heard of it!  Who said they could not get it where they lived!

At first it was just one commenter and I thought, “How sad.  They must live on an oil derrick, or a tundra, or perhaps on death row.”  But then there was another.  Then another – all from different areas.

Oh no. Does this mean my abs also don't really look like this? No, no - of course they do. I'm just being paranoid.

Then I got worried. Was I imagining this?  Was coffee-fudge swirl with chocolate chips and Irish Cream just something I’d concocted? Was I, perhaps, entering into some Tyler Durden-esque state, only instead of beating myself up and starting Project Mayhem I was sitting there, imagining eating ice cream?  And if so, how lame am I?

I’m pretty sure that’s not the case. Pretty sure.  There was talk that it had been discontinued, that it was a St. Patrick’s Day seasonal.  So much terrifying talk.  But I own some right now.  Bought some a couple months ago, too.  But is it really the flavor I think it is?  I was able to confirm that I’m not insane by running up and down the streets in my pajamas with a pint of Dublin Mudslide screaming at strangers, “CAN YOU SEE THIS??  WHAT’S IN MY HAND?  WHAT’S THE FLAVOR?!  THE FLAVOR?!”  And people were really emphatic that I am not a crazy person.

The funny thing is that I’m not even a big dessert guy.  I like a good German chocolate cake, crème brulee can sometimes be just the thing, but generally I don’t flip for them.  But Dublin Mudslide?  Oh, baby.

So instead of the regularly planned Weekly Question Of The Week for this week, let’s talk about this: What dessert do you just go nuts for?  The one that if people have never tried, you feel like you have to go find some for them right now

Some people like to drink their dessert (or even have dessert for dinner), or so I’m told. For them, there is nothing to rival what my Downeast pal Baxter calls Fat Ass in a Glass — Kaluah, cream and when you’re really looking to guild the lilly, a shot of Bailey’s. It’s Dublin Mudslide with a kick, AND you can dunk your Oreos in it. Genius, no?

Lindt chocolate truffles, swallowed down with coffee Haagen Dazs. Repeat liberally. I must admit, the Dublin Mudslide does sound mighty tasty. I’m a fool for that coffee/chocolate mix.

Everyone’s seen choc, covered cherries. Blak. Godiva makes a dark chocolate covered raspberry. It’s so good, you only need to eat one….

I haven’t seen Dublin Mudslide either. I’ll check for it next time I go to the store.

My favorite dessert is rhubarb crisp. Rhubarb only grows in some places, so a lot of people haven’t heard of it. When I was younger, I lived in Alaska where it grows like a weed. We ate it like it was going out of style.

If I was picking desserts that people have heard of, I’d go with coffee Haagen Dazs or the chocolate/peanut butter cup flavor Ben & Jerry’s.

Candy: Chick-o-Stick or Cherry Kit Kat (which is sadly now only made in Japan).
    Cake: Tres Leches
Cookie: My peanut butter cookies (I will whip out a bowl and spoon so fast your head will spin).
Ice Cream: Either the Red Velvet Cake ice cream that this coffee shop/ice cream parlour down the street from where we last lived had, or Edy’s Samoas.

And for the record, dude, I’m sorry but I’ve never heard of your Dublin Mudslide either. But I suspect I’d love it. Too much.

After looking at the flavor locator on their website I did find out that Dublin Mudslide is available at one store here. Which just so happens to be the one store I rarely, if ever, shop at. We will have to change this.

As for my oh-my-god-you-mean-you-haven’t-tried-this-before?!?! dessert, that would have to be Bread Pudding. I am a sucker for a good Bread Pudding and when I find a place that makes good Bread Pudding I feel like I should share with all humanity (as long as all humanity does not take my piece).

I’m sorry, I am unable to focus on a desert that drives me nuts, because I am still traumatized by the fact that Dublin Mudslide is not available in my area. What’s worse – because yes, it gets worse – someone else dropped the name “Dave Matthew’s Band Magic Brownies”. This person lives in the Pacific NW, and she’s shared pictures. She has shared pictures of the goodness, the Black Raspberry Ice Cream Swirled with Sweet Cream Ice Cream & Fudgy Brownies kind of goodness.

It is a cruel, cruel world.

I made German chocolate cake for the first time this Saturday at my father-in-law’s request (his birthday)! Holy coconut; it is seriously INVOLVED. I think I dirtied every dish I own. I will never complain about having to make carrot cake ever again.

I don’t have quite the sweet tooth that I did growing up, but pretty much anything with chocolate and peanut butter, or gooey chocolate (like lava/molten chocolate cake) is delicious. I also LOVE cannolis and any cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory. Of course, I would trade any of this for champagne.

P.S. – I’ve never heard of that ice cream flavor either! But I’ll take your abs, I mean word, for it.

The first time I mixed peanut butter and chocolate you’d have thought I’d discovered clean, renewable fuel. It was like I needed to tell everyone immediately, because the world NEEDED this information.

I’m always surprised that nobody wants to try Hagen Daz (spelling? can’t care less) Rum and Raisin. I think people think “Old people!” at the combo but it’s divine. Thus far, I’ve converted NOBODY cos they refuse to try it. All the more for Ta.

I have to admit, that’s my reaction. “Oh, be sure and have a delicious phosphate with that ice cream! Check out the latest Saturday Evening Post!” Then I tried it and, you’re right. It’s really good.

There’s the little French restaurant in my town that serves up a Bailey’s mousse. I don’t generally have a sweet tooth, it’s made a monster out of me! The boyfriend wanted to share it with me once and I had to brusquely informed him that I needed my own. THERE IS NO SHARING OF THE DELICIOUSNESS!

I LOVE bread pudding, rhubarb crisp, any kind of cheesecake & rice pudding with raisins. Unfortunately, we don’t get that flavor of ice cream here in Alberta, Canada either. But have you ever tried plain old vanilla ice ream with Ovaltine on it? Smuch it up till soft & it’s like a malt in a bowl, yum!

Chocolate is lovely and there are many wonderful chocolate concoctions available in the finer dining spots around town….nevertheless they aren’t what really gets the motor running.

I am at heart a Southern Girl. There is nothing, I mean not one single thing, nada, nary a single thing in the world like …… wait for it……
